Measuring Your Slats
Three Required Measurements For Slat Ordering
-
Total Width
This is the dimension of your slat from the end of one peg, to the end of the other peg.
-
Slat Width
This is the dimension of your slat, without the pegs.
-
Height
This is the overall height of your slat, from the bottom to the top.
Setup
Extend your tape measure, and affix one side to a work surface.
How To Measure
-
With the tape measure affixed to your surface, Measurements are easy to read without parts shifting.
-
Start From A Defined Point
Always take your measurement with a defined begining. Some tape measures after 12" have a marking such as 1F1, meaning 1Foot, 1Inch.
-
Some measures continue past 12 without having a 1foot 1inch mark. For these, it's easiest to start at 10". You can then take your final measurement and subtract 10 and have your actual dimension. (Example: 14 3/4" = 4 3/4")
-
Get to know the fractions
Count the number of lines between the begining of an inch and the next inch mark. If there are 16 lines, then each line represents 1/16" If your slat falls between two of those lines, then that is 1/32".
Some rulers/tape measures help divide up the fractions. The tallest lines are the Inches, Next tallest would be a 1/2" line, followed by slightly shorter 1/4" lines, then even shorter 1/8" lines, then even shorter 1/16" lines. Some even include 1/32" marks as well!
-
Minimize Parallax Error
Once you've determined that one end of your slat is lined up perfectly with "zero", make note of the measured dimension by looking straight down at it, especially if taking photos. Viewing from an angle can make it appear that your slat is longer than it actually is.
-
Skip the Fractions!!
All the design and 3d modeling is done using the metric scale. Submitting your requests using the metric system is perfectly acceptable!
Optional Measurements/Features
-
Peg Diameter
Unless otherwise specified, the peg diameter of slats will be 3/32"
-
Slat Thickness
Unless otherwise specified, the thickness of the slats will be 1/16"
-
Slat Profile
Unless otherwise specified, slats will be produced flat, with no curve along the profile edge.
